Lavender Bunch

So nothing went as planned this week!
I have been stumped decorating my fireplace.  I had this grand idea to make this spectacular mirror and it turned into a total disaster.  I now have a few projects I can send over to the Craft Fail blog! Yikes! :)

We did manage to come up with this spur of the moment... framed lavender.
This was influenced by an idea we saw in the magazine,
Create and Decorate
and by a painted burlap picture
we saw in the incredible decor store.

We wrapped a thin board with burlap and hot glued the edges.  Then we used craft paint to coat the front of the burlap.  I was using a ton of craft paint, so after a couple of coats...I headed outside with some cream spray paint.  Much easier!

After the paint dried, we clipped a few fake lavender sprigs and tied with twine and a tag.  Next we used hot glue to adhere.

We then tried it in an old frame....

And then without.  Which do you prefer?

This would be fun to try with herbs and hang them in a kitchen.

Hopefully this week will bring much better luck with the projects.
We have some fun ideas I think you all will like!

~LOVE~sacks

Are you all sick of so many Valentine's projects yet? I think you can kinda tell that we love Valentine's!  For me, it's an excuse to decorate a little more girly. In my boy house, it's sport teams, footballs, jerseys, trucks, toy guns, and Star Wars.  So, I love anything pink, red, frilly, or feminine.
These "love sacks" are influenced by staring at tons of blogs.  A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Nicole told me not to name them "love sacks" because people might think it's derogatory! :) I'm not sure what else to call them?  I wonder what people we might pick up off of Google's search looking for a "love sack"?

These were so easy to make!  I first found a font and I didn't even print it off.  You know, computers make great light boxes.  I held my freezer paper up to the computer screen and penciled it right on.  It saves some ink. I then used an exacto knife to cut the freezer paper out carefully.
Iron the freezer paper onto the fabric.
Most people have stenciled the paint on, but I prefer spray paint.  It sprays on so evenly!
Just make sure you cut your freezer paper wide enough to cover the fabric.
Look at that!  So cool!
I sewed the two pieces of burlap together and stuffed with fiberfil, then finished the sack off with twine.

I swear we have some other projects besides Valentine's stuff coming really soon! :)
