Amy from the Idea Room made the cutest red felt heart wreath. I used her felt flower technique to make mine. I love her blog, she has the greatest ideas!
Martha Stewart
I have been wanting to make Martha Stewart's beautiful wreath since I saw it last Valentine's. I was in Michaels trying to find a heart form and cheap flowers to match Martha's. I found gorgeous flowers in the silk floral section but they were about five dollars a piece! I couldn't justify purchasing them. I make way too many crafts...so I have to keep it cheap!
Then I remembered seeing Amy's great idea with the felt yesterday. I made this for nothing because I used felt I had on hand, I have a large hoard of goodies in my house!
First I needed a wreath form. I have a very cute heart plate from Target that made the perfect pattern. I traced it onto thin scrap wood, and cut it out with the jigsaw. I wanted a little poof to the heart, so I cut some scrap fleece to match the heart, glued it on with a glue gun, left a space to stuff, then filled it with fiberfill.
I added a few tacks to keep the fleece and stuffing down. Then I traced the circles, and cut. I used pinking shears and like the result. I then folded the circles twice and dabbed with a little glue from the glue gun. (Amy used a foam wreath and used pins to adhere the felt flowers.) You need to hold the folded fabric until the glue sets. I then put more glue on the bottom and attached the folded circle to the wreath, starting with the outer edge.
I finished the wreath off with a silver ribbon saved from Christmas packages and flecked it with some silver glitter spray. I'm still thinking about those gorgeous flowers like Martha's in Michael's... but I really love this too!

That is just gorgeous! I love the glitter you added! I saw an idea for one on littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com - using a heart wreath and fabric - and actually made it last night! I may have to break out my red felt to make this one too :) How much of the red felt do you think you used?
Oh my goodness, this is gorgeous!! I just bought some red felt, so I can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE IT CANDACE!!!!!
love,
your #1 fan
Julee,
I used an entire yard, down to the last cut circle! I'm glad you like it. If you don't have a saw to cut a form, you could easily use sturdy cardboard. Good luck, it's really pretty simple!
Wow, this looks like a lot of work, but the impact is HUGE!! I love it!
Hey, check out my blog, I passed on an award to you both... No pressure to accept, just know I thought of you!
L.O.V.E. It!!

for real, this is my favorite project you have done so far! seriously, so cute. i have always wanted to make a valentines wreath, but all the ones i have ever seen seem a little too...i don't know... but this wreath is such a great balance of sophisticated and fun and sweet. i love it.
p.s. when do you sleep?!
I want one! How long did it take?
Rene,
This took exactly 1 naptime, while watching a movie. My mother-in-law (the quilter) taught me that if your going to cut fabric....be efficient by layering and cut a lot at a time. I folded the fabric a couple of times to cut circles fast. I also held the folded glued fabrics between several fingers to set, while gluing.
I told you we were "craaazy crafters!" Really, it's not that bad to make! :)
I've seen lots of heart wreaths floating around on blogland and I must say this is by far my favorite one! I love the deep red color and the depth and texture. Super cute!
LOVE your wreath! It is gorgeous! I love how you used pinking shears and glitter - both add so much to the wreath!
i like yours even better than the martha much more colorful!
