For you...sister dear!

My sister Nicole is super busy this season cutting and cutting away in her woodshop for her little business. She is too busy for extra crafting at the moment, but admired my last ornament wreath. She mentioned that she would love a "mercury" silver ornament wreath. This is what I came up with....I think this might be more "tarnished' or distressed silver rather than the "mercury" that's so popular. Hope it's okay Nicky!

 I discovered "HONKS" the dollar store!  It's a crafters haven!  I picked up as many ornaments as I could, and I believe I  finished off what was left of the silver.  The ornaments get cleared out pretty fast in the dollar stores!

I found some "disco" balls....that's what my kids call them!

The other day I was reading the blog of fabulous Stephanie Lynn...Under the Table Dreaming, where she explained how to make faux Mercury Glass Trees.  Go there for painting technique!  I love everything she does! She used a combination of silver and black paint, then scratched off with a kitchen  sponge.

On the left are silver ornaments  I spray painted with a combination of RUST-OLEUM'S Silver Hammered spray paint and Metallic Aluminum spray paint. I like the Silver Hammered especially ~because it kinda gives a textured satin nickel finish.  I also liked using the hammered silver over the high shiny ornaments, because when distressed after spray paint, the shine came through a little bit.  The spray paint was great too when spraying LARGE amounts of ornaments.  Quick and EASY!  (Can you tell I'm linking up with Shanty2Chic's RUSTOLEUM party! :) I wish Rustoleom would come up with a silver mercury finish...then this project would be super easy!  I don't know...maybe there already is one and I don't know about it! :)

I then sponged on black paint, scratched away some paint with a kitchen scrub pad, and then sponged on some more black paint. I think they look like Pewter balls.

I was going to try the clothes hanger ornament wreath, but it's HARD!  I think the wire isn't long enough too!  I had some leftover MDF rings in my garage from failed attempts with the sunburst mirror.   They seemed to work perfectly for this wreath.  You could use a simple wreath FORM from the craft stores.

I don't know if the felt pieces were necessary, but the felt worked so easily with the last wreath, so I just glued some strips on. I also glued each of the balls to each other.  I had some crazy hot glue string going on.  Don't look too closely Nicky! :) She's a perfectionist and has a funny phrase for bad quality crafting.  But I won't tell you.. (HA,Ha!:)

I added a burgandy, or maybe it's red velvet ribbon to hang. Nicky loves burgandy!

**I just updated this post, because the last pictures of the wreath looked "NAKED" and needed more balls...Nicole agreed..in a nice way!  :)**
