A friend of mine asked me to help her make a Valentine wreath for her front door. I sent her the best ideas from blogland and of course she chose the wreath from the The Idea Room.
How can you not choose that one?
Nicole and I headed over to the fabric store to buy the felt. While the fabric was being cut, the lady asked what we were making. She knew exactly, isn't that funny?
We headed over to the wreath forms and they were...all sold out! That's a problem. So with Nicole's help, we got creative. We found a large round of styrofoam, traced a large heart about 1 1/2" thick, grabbed my large kitchen knife and chopped it out.
I was worried about the pins not staying in the styrofoam because our foam was less dense than the original heart form. We needed to use a dab of hot glue on each circle with a pin. I was also worried that the hot glue would melt the foam, so I wrapped the heart, glued, and then bound the form with thread. It worked like a charm!
The cool thing is... I was able to make it a little larger to fit the size of my friend's front door.
I used almost 2 yards (yikes!) of 62 inch wide felt!!
I think I have carpal tunnel from cutting all the circles out!
But it sure turned out pretty!
Thanks again Amy for such a fantastic creation! :)
Super cute. I love it! What a nice friend you are to make it for her:)
ReplyDeleteThere may be nothing you and your sister can't do. I am not a fan of Valentine's Decor, but I really like your wreath and it is what I would want if I was a fan of it. I am so tired of undecorating from Christmas I can't imagine putting up V day stuff. Maybe I am lazy!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow that is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Your friend is so lucky to have the craft sisters on her team.
ReplyDeleteI want friends like you LOL Unfortunately I am the "crafty friend" so I rarely get pretties made for me like this...I hope none of my friends read this : )
Paula
A really nice solution!

These are so cute! Wow! Candace - I was wondering if you've ever done paper lanterns that hang from a ceiling. I would like to make some and hang them in Truman's room. Any suggestions? Have you seen these for purchase in any stores? Keep up the great work!! Carrie
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I did this very same thing a couple of weeks ago for the very same craft. Couldn't find a styrofoam heart, but I used 2 cutout hearts and hot glued them together...which was a bit tricky. But i like your idea of wrapping the heart with the felt....I may have to un-pin and rewrap for next year.
