Mom, can you BUILD this for me please?

I think my son has greatly overestimated my "craft" skills.

I usually snag a copy of Pottery Barn Kids when I'm at the mall, but this time I grabbed PB Teen.  My nine year old son grabbed the catalog right away because it had Lacrosse sticks on the front. He has been obsessed with learning lacrosse. Nicole's husband played Lacrosse in high school and college, and he recently coached the local varsity team.  My son was eagerly watching and taking it all in.

He opened  up the catalog and quickly found this room.
"Please, PLEASE, will you build it for me?  I want the stuffed blue chair too!!  You can do it!!"

Um, is that normal?  What have I done to my kids? How many moms BUILD rooms?

I don't know about the blue stuffed chair, but now I'll have to give it a try!
Wish me luck....lots of luck.

  3. I bet you can get a beanbag chair and cover it with a semi-shaped slipcover to get something like the chair in the picture. Maybe with some lightweight denim, nice and soft, plus machine washable!

  4. Google Knock off Wood. Ana has posted plans for PB knock offs that you won't believe. If you can use a hammer and saw, you can build this room.

  6. www.Knock-offwood.com is the best place EVER, I am sure they have the plans or you could add it to her long list of requests.

Otherwise a simple way to get something similar would be to put a bookcase on either side and connect them with a shelf, a long board that sits on either sides top of the book case. It's different but similar. And I bet the most important part that he really wants is the lacross sticks above his head.

  7. you can come over to my blog and see how I've been building built-ins in my son's room. I used old upper kitchen cabinets as the bases. The last post I did shows them unfinished...I'm just about done now. I could send you a pic of how they look now if you want. Just send me your email address and you can have a sneak peek! (I haven't even blogged about the finished products yet! lol) You CAN do it! :0)

  9. that sounds like my kids. make one semi-cool thing and suddenly they want you to revamp the entire house, make them tons of toys, make their friends toys, and basically be the creative guru for the world. :) gotta love their confidence in us!
