Clay Pot Topiary

is celebrating 2000 followers with food, presents, and parties!

  Today she is having a
 "CLAY POT"
What would you do with a simple terracotta pot?
The challenge had our wheels turning.

Nicole and I picked up some
 CelluClay.
 This is neat stuff.
It's instant papier mache.
Just add water!
It adheres "I think" to almost anything.
We thought we would adhere it to some pots!

Just add water until you have it at the consistency that your prefer, then wipe it on the surface.
I used my fingers....and I enjoyed it! :)
There's something about getting your hands all dirty and creating stuff....it makes me happy!
We let it sit overnight.
CelluClay is sandable and paintable after it's dry.

Before we spray painted the pots,
I gave it a quick sanding to flatten the big chunks.
We glazed with brown and sanded lightly after drying.
I wouldn't be surprised if I start Celluclaying
 anything
I can get my hands on, it's so fun to work with.

We were inspired by Restoration Hardware's topiaries with twiggy bases.
We gathered thin branches from a tree, braided three together and bound the ends with floral tape.
We set them in floral foam covered with moss.

I picked up some "pre-made" boxwood balls.
Real Deals, the cheap decor store we love,
sells the little balls for just over 2.00 and the large ball for about 6.00.
That's a deal, and I don't even have to struggle making them! :)

The large ball was set into the large pot.

The two small balls were perched upon our homemade sticks.

We had a lot of fun making these!
Thanks Donna for the challenge of using simple pots.
Head on over to the party to check out the other cute ideas using pots!

  9. The topiaries looks great! I had never heard of that stuff you used. But it gives the pots a great aged look. No Real Dealz, wonder if anyone else has them?

  13. Another product that would work well is AMACO ClayCrete Instant Papier Mache, available at Dick Blick and most major craft stores, or visit www.amaco.com. Really like what you did here!

  15. ok-I don't want you to think that I am crazy or anything. But...I LOVE your blog-like puffy heart with glitter love! Your skills are amazing! I loved looking at all your past projects. I loved your egg crafts-my neighbors thought that I was weird for spray painting eggs as well. Your flowers that you did with the egg center were darling!! I don't suppose that you would shoot me an email and go into a little more detail on how you did them with the whole melting tips?
This pot project is darling! I went to lunch the other day with my friend Shelley from House of Smiths and she was going on and on about these!! So glad that I found you!
Ok-I have now wrote a novel-I will shut up now. I would love for you to come and visit sometime. I just spray painted some outdoor pillows-too fun!
PS-I also loved your wreath. I am thinking that is going on my weekend to do list! Thanks for all the inspiration-keep up the fantastic work!!!

  18. Ummmm... We don't have a Real Deals out here. Any chance I could send you some moolah and you you could mail a few of those lovely pre-made balls to me? ( I looked into making them myself with foam balls and fake boxwood and it is waaaay more than yours even with shipping!)
